Annual practical three-day seminar in Irkutsk summary

XI annual three-day practical seminar for the specialists of electric grids "Control and diagnostics of high-voltage Electromechanical equipment" was held in Irkutsk.

This year among the participants we had heads of electrical laboratories, masters and electromechanics from JSC Tyumenenergo, Tyumen distribution network and Nizhnevartovsk distribution network, specialists and engineers from such companies as Mondi Syktyvkar, Engineering center Energorazvitie, Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company, Mining and chemical combine.

The first day, traditionally was theoretical. SKB EP colleagues provided information about defects detection in the circuit breakers and transformers at early stage showing advantages of our instruments.

The second day was practical, the participants was training on the imitator of HV circuit breaker using one of the PKV instruments. The group also studied all the testing items and the software.

The participants carried out practical work with the PKV/M7 under the guidance of our specialist. They dismantled its complete set, considered the features of the DP12 and DP21 sensors, performed the connection of measuring cables, as well as simulated diagnosis of high-voltage equipment.

PKV/M7 high-voltage circuit breaker control instrument turned out to be the most popular and well-known for most professionals. Many participants noticed that they were working with the device not for the first year, others recently purchased it, and the third, just heard positive reviews about its operation, so there were many questions and discussions, but almost all remained similar regarding the device advantages:

  • easy to use;
  • operates control of the main characteristics of HV circuit breakers;
  • it is able to diagnose by graphical data, both in the device and on the PC;
  • very well targeted software allowing to create measurement templates and reports in a convenient form;
  • good adaptability to different weather conditions.

Every student had a chance to make testing on the imitator of HV circuit breaker and create protocol based on the results. Later there was team work to review typical defect based on the graphic.

New elaborations were represented on the second day: new line of milliohmmeters MIKO-9, MIKO-8М и МИКО-7М, highly precise micro ohmmeter МIKO-21 and a small size micro ohmmeter МIKO-10.

Those specialists who take care of repair and diagnostics of power transformers expressed their interest to the milliohmmeter  MIKO-9. They have noted that the instrument has quite a big range of electrical resistance measurement (10 µΩ ÷ 30 kΩ), high speed of measurement (for example for 1 phase power transformer 80000 MVA /110 kV measurements of 1 welding takes 2 minutes, for 3 phase transformer 250000 MVA/500 kV it is 7 minutes), OLTC in-place check mode (DRM method) and demagnetizing.

According to the plan the three-day seminar, the second day ended with a city tour and a walk through the central streets of Irkutsk.

The third day was also practical. The work was based on Irkutskenergo electric grid and included practical work on both circuit breakers and transformers.

During the day SKB specialists represented manipulating rod aimed to operate connection of the measuring cables of the instruments to HV equipment up to 220 kV (up to 5 m from the ground) without using ladders or elevators which helps to minimize service costs.

Later we showed how to operate ПКВ/М7 to test circuit breaker. During the testing we used a special terminal bus providing maximum convenience of the PKV instrument connection to the circuit breaker.

Use of МIKO-21 and МIKO-10 was also demonstrated on the circuit breaker as well.

The students noted that МIKO-21 has very convenient measurement start which is operated as soon as circuit is closed or up to the time set. This function is especially convenient because there is no need to use hands to push the start button.

Micro ohmmeter МIKO-10 attracted huge attention to its size and ability to operate express testing. Experts appreciated its’ portability and ease of use, which is placed on the hand with fixing tension belts, leaving both hands free. In addition, the device can be easily removed from the hand and fixed on the belt, hung on neck as well as installed on any flat surface.

Later the participants practiced to work with OLTC transformers testing using PKR-2M aimed to operate dismountable control technical condition of OLTC of all types both resistor and reactor as well as in-place check mode (DRM method) without opening the cover of the contractors tanks. The sequence of connection, the process of control in dismountable and in-place check modes, serviceable and faulty graphical results of diagnostics of resistors contactor (oscillography) were demonstrated. The workshop participants could evaluate the ease of measurement and time saving during diagnosis of tap changers by in-place check mode (DRM-test).

The participants were very active and enthusiastic, asked questions, shared experience and exchanged opinions. The third day, traditionally, ended with a trip to Listvyanka village on the shore of the great lake Baikal, where the participants were awarded and summed up the seminar.

SKB EP thanks everyone for participating!
Such a tight schedule of the seminar provided an opportunity for specialists to improve their professional level.

Many experts have left video reviews about the event and the company's equipment, at the moment the information is in processing – stay tuned to the SKB EP YouTube channel.
