Results of a Training Workshop in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan)

Early in November SKB-EP together with the official dealer PATENT-DUBLE Company held a free training workshop for specialists of VK REK Company and "East MES" Branch of KEGOC.

Workshop attendants dealt with diagnosis and maintenance of voltage control devices (further LTC), therefore, the focus was on the PKR-2М and MIKO-8 instruments.  The SKB EP representative told about peculiarities, benefits and advantages of the instruments operation:

PKR-2MThe PKR-2M instrument is intended for destructive control of the operability state of LTS devices of both resistor and reactor types, as well as for non-destructive testing that allows LTC diagnosis with current-limiting resistors without removing the contactor’s cover (DRM-test).

The PKR-2M is a specific-purpose instrument for LTC control that allows recording the oscillograms of contactors operation and a circular diagram recording across three phases at a time.

(direct connection, destructive method of testing)

MIKO-8The MIKO-8 allows measurement of active resistance in the range of 10 mkOhm ÷ 10 kOhm, as well as destructive and non-destructive control of LTC devices (DRM-test).  Non-destructive control is an additional function of the MIKO-8 and from the standpoint of mathematics the DRM-test here is less efficient (phase-by-phase oscillography, a circular diagram is not recorded at all).

The MIKO-8 is a specific-purpose milliohmmeter whose additional function is intended for high-speed express-diagnosis of LTC state without opening the cover.

Workshop attendants had experience in operating the PKR-2M analogue, therefore, they could assess benefits and advantages of the SKB EP instrument, particularly:

  • it is furnished with a high-precision sensor fitted with fasteners for different LTC types;
  • it makes records of circular diagrams both for LTC resistors and reactors;
  • it allows testing across three phases at one time.

The PKR-2M attracted special interest after it was found out that specialists of the VK REK Company and of East MEK Branch of КЕGОС were not aware of DRM-tests for assessing the technical state of transformers LTC, and the SKB EP expert told about the benefits of non-destructive method of control (DRM-test).

"Benefits of DRM-test integration into the PKR-2M instrument:

  • no need to open the LTC cover, and to drain oil;
  • elimination of additional costs and man-hours for LTC state diagnosis;
  • no need to connect additional items or to know the resistance of current-limiting resistors of a tested unit as all the necessary adjustment to a particular LTC are made automatically".

Attendants of the workshop stressed practicality and functionality of the PKR-2M that is evidenced by the fact of further cooperation of SKB-EP with VK REK Company and East MEK Branch of КЕGОС. They equipped their teams with modern PKR-2M analyzers.
