Report on an Annual Three-Day Workshop in Irkutsk

An annual training workshop of SKB EP, LLC on the "Monitoring of High-Voltage Switching Devices and Transformers with SKB EP Instruments" was conducted on April 17, 2014 at the Corporative Education Research Centre JSC Irkutskenergo in Irkutsk.

Engineers, foremen and wiremen of 7 power companies as well as professors of the Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute and representatives of SKB EP network of partners participated this year.

The theoretical course was held on the first day. SKB EP specialists told about the main methods of early failure detection in the mechanisms of high-voltage circuit breakers and transformers. They acquainted the listeners with the latest SKB EP developments in the field of in-place diagnostics.

The second day was aimed at the practical operation with SKB EP instruments on the high-voltage circuit breakers simulators. The participants were able to see the equipment in action, evaluate the software capabilities as well as to learn how to analyze the measurement results of virtually all instruments made by SKB EP.

PKV/M7 was tagged by all participants as the "device for young specialists". In their opinion, the instrument is designed for top-ranking specialists, mainly due to the capability of the instrument to operate with a computer. The instrument attracted a great interest, since it provides high accuracy measurements, and with PC software it can overlay the measurement plots, store the results in databases and create measurement and reports templates in a convenient form.

The workshop participants acknowledged the low weight and dimensions of the MIKO-2.3 micromillikiloohmmeter as compared to the similar instruments, which provides the ease of operation thereof.

MIKO-8 milliohmmeter was noted for a convenient and practical case. Though, a combination of milliohmmeter functions and the ability of OLTC in-place diagnostics, in particular, proved to be very practical solution for the participants.

A bran-new development of the company – MIKO-21 microohmmeter – was also presented as a part of the course.

The final stage of the second day was a roundtable discussion between the specialists in the energy sector and SKB EP designers. This event provides a rare possibility of face-to-face communication: the participants were able to discuss with specialists different situations from their own working practice, express their wishes, recommendations and proposals concerning the development of new equipment. Such first-hand feedback helps to improve the instruments produced by SKB EP.

The practical work with high-voltage circuit breakers VK-10 and VMP-10 was carried out on the third day. The practical demonstration of PKV/M7 instrument with the real circuit breakers aroused great interest among the participants.

The workshop participants highlighted in particular the terminal block for the VK-10, which due to insulated and marked points provides the most convenient and safe connection of the instrument switch to the circuit breaker. Participants actively asked questions and shared their experiences with each other.

At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants were awarded with certificates. SKB EP thanks all for participation.

Such a busy schedule of the workshop provides an opportunity for the specialists to significantly increase their proficiency in diagnostics of high-voltage equipment and analysis of measurement results in a few days.

If you want to study the instruments practically and in details, SKB EP offers training services. The workshop plan will be drawn up on an individual basis taking into account the acquired instruments (or those of interest) and available diagnostics objects. If you want to study the instruments practically and in details, you can always leave an application for a workshop on the company website, and our specialists will contact you.
